Acne

Acne or Pimples is a very common skin disorder which affects during puberty and young individuals. Females are commonly affected than males. Acne usually are caused due to clogged pores. Hormones play a vital role in formation of acne. Hormones act on oily glands of skin to increase oil production, the draining ducts of oily glands get blocked by dead skin, so the oil cannot get drained on skin, which in turn causes Cutibacterium Acnes to flourish. This results in formation of pimples or acne.
Cause of Acne:
One of the most important reasons to develop acne is male hormones called androgens. These are increased during puberty which causes skin follicle glands to grow larger and make more oily sebum. Also, during pregnancy, there is increase in androgen levels which in in turn causes increase in sebum secretion.
Hereditary plays an important role in the development of acne. Apart from these certain medications containing hormones, corticosteroids, lithium may help in the formation of acne. Stress in any form can also lead to acne.

Acne is one of the commonest skin disorders. Oil glands are present all over the body, so any part of the body can be affected by it. Although, Acne is usually seen on -

Signs and symptoms of Acne:
There is increased secretion of oil by the sebaceous gland present in the skin.
  • Comedones (white or blackheads)- They are clogged enlarged and plugged hair follicles.
  • Papules- These are solid inflamed bumps in your skin which are conical in shape.
  • Pustules- When papules are filled with yellow or white matter in it, then these are called as pustules.
  • Nodules- It is an inflammatory acne which are firm and painful lumps and are lodged deep into the skin.
These when left untreated can lead to pigmentation and scarring of skin.

  • Silica: This medicine is indicated where acne is associated with pus formation. These people are sensitive, mild, timid, less confident but very intelligent. They are sensitive to cold air.
  • Sulphur: This medicine is usually given when the pimples are itchy especially in the evening. Pimples usually affects on forehead. Pimples which are painful and red in colour.
